Two M&M’s Factory Workers Were Trapped In A Vat Of Chocolate For More Than An Hour

While you might think that swimming a pool of chocolate sounds like a dream, you might want to think about that once again. Think back to the scene where Augustus Gloop falls into the chocolate river. Well, two employees working at an M&M’s factory in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania experienced this nightmare for themselves.

The Employees Were Trapped For Over An Hour

According to a report in Food & Wine, the workers became trapped in chocolate that was waist-high. They shared that they were wading through chocolate that was “sort of dry” for nearly an hour before firefighters showed up to rescue them.

However, the rescue mission was not so simple. It was not a matter of just pulling them out of the chocolate. Communications Supervisor for Lancaster County 911 Dispatch Brad Wolfe shared: “Fire crews have eliminated pulling them straight out of a tank. They have to cut a hole in the side of the tank to get them out.”

Firefighters Came To Rescue The Workers From The Chocolate

After the giant chocolate-y mess, Assistant Supervisor of Lancaster County 911 Dispatch Nick Schoenberger told CNN:  “One patient was transported [to a hospital] by ground and one person was transported by helicopter.”

It is still unclear just how the workers ended up getting stuck in the first place, and it is also not clear whether they sustained any serious injuries before or during the rescue mission.

This is not the first time chocolate has caused a disastrous emergency situation. In 2018, Westönnen, a town in Germany, was flooded by chocolate after a leak from a storage container in the FreiMeister Factory. The streets were absolutely covered, and before firefighters were able to shovel away the chocolate, hot water had to be poured into the streets to soften the spilled chocolate.
